Laryngectomy

This is a major surgical procedure where the larynx (voice box) is removed, usually due to laryngeal cancer. Following a laryngectomy, patients will breathe through an opening in the neck (a stoma) and may require rehabilitation for speech, including learning esophageal speech or using an electronic speech aid. Comprehensive post-operative care involves stoma care, speech therapy, and monitoring for recurrence of cancer.
